Life on Rails

In a recent interview on Nightline, Rick Warren said the following. These thoughts are very timely for me:

... God is more interested in your character than your comfort.

God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy.

Good reminders for me right now when I have gone through varying levels of comfort the past few months.

I used to think that life was hills and valleys - you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountaintop, back and forth. I don't believe that anymore.

Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it's kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life.

Life on Rails? Now we're Getting Real! :-) (Sorry everyone, this is RoR nerd humor.)

Everyone pretty much missed or missunderstood this post: Fun with PNG. I'm going to fix the header this week sometime.

Life on rails? Hmmm. I believe good and bad can happen at the same time - it's usually how life works. My mom is famous for saying, "These are the good times". She'll say that at a funeral or standing beside a sick bed. She means - enjoy the time you have. Enjoy the moment. You never know if things could get worse. Things will typically get better. So just enjoy "now". These ARE the good times.

As for mountains and valley's - I believe the rails of my life are laid across deep canyons and magnificent mountains. It's been in the deepest, darkest valley's I've grown closer to God - so yeah, I agree with you. Good and bad experiences are side by side.

What about those train tunnels? Scary or cool? A lot can happen when we're in the dark. Maybe that's what faith is. The tunnels.

I'm suddenly reminded of Wilcox: "Walkin' on the railroad rail. Leaning in to one another. Ballancing so we won't fail. Into time as friends and lovers." Good song; good album.

I like the tunnels, Erica.

God hears all prayers, and God answers all prayers. But sometimes God's answer is "no."
