The Spirit of the Age

I was listening to a CD today by John Eldredge (the "Wild at Heart" guy) about "The Spirit of The Age" - basically talking about The World. His thought is that the spirit of our age is "driven". And the enemy comes in behind it and simply says, "run them!"

He talked about those experiments they did on mice to see how long it would take them to die on amphetamines. Some mice were given speed and left alone; others were given speed and put in a group. The ones in the group would die 20 times faster than the ones left alone. Later they would put mice who were not on speed with the group who had been given speed. Those mice would get caught up in the activity of the speed-mice and quickly die as well, even though they had no mecial reason to join in the frenzy.

John went on to talk about our source of life and how we can connect to it in times of silence, solitude, and just plain old "downtime". He asked some questions like - and I'm paraphrasing - how many nights a week do your and your family, including your children, just have an evening at home, with no sports, school, or other activies? Highly Recommended.

Isaiah 30:15

In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.

My favorite scripture. I suppose I should take those words of wisdom and encouragement from my Maker to heart more often.

There's much the Maker says that we could all stand to remember more frequently.
