Why You Should Turn Off SSID Broadcast

For those of you with a wireless network, check your router's manual or settings and turn off SSID Broadcast. When you go to connect, you'll actually have to type in the name, but it makes it harder for others to find it.

And you won't be embarrassed by the stupid name you gave your network, as Daring Fireball points out.

Wardriving used to be a problem. Now with the advent of the iPhone and other devices, War-walking-around is a problem too.

That is basic wireless security. In addition, don't make your SSID out of the dictionary, your address, or your name.
